The Pennsylvania Property and Casualty Insurance Guaranty Association (PPCIGA) is a not-for-profit, unincorporated Association created by the Pennsylvania Legislature in 1970.
The Statute is located at 40 P.S. § 991.1801, et seq. PPCIGA provides a means for the payment of covered claims under certain property and casualty insurance policies, to avoid excessive delay in the payment of such claims, and to avoid financial loss of claimants or policyholders as a result of the insolvency of a member company.
The Association is not an insurer, does not provide replacement coverage, and is not the legal successor of the insolvent insurer. The Guaranty Association statute provides for a limited form of protection and not everyone will be placed in the same position they would have been had the insurance company remained solvent.
